Space without qualities

As part of Regine Leibinger’s design seminar of the same name, an artistic documentation of the design process is developed. Designing is not a linear and rational process but, just like artistic work, is influenced by interruptions and deviations. The integration of parametric software, apparently based on logical programming and consecutive steps, into the design process facilitates critical reflection on this process and becomes particularly interesting when one decides to not automatically follow this logic. Rational developments and intuitive design moments can have an alternating influence on each other at any moment. The intermittent ‘failure’ of a design concept can become the driving force behind a new strategy, once in-depth analysis has been carried out. Understanding the process for oneself and for others can increase the knowledge of the individual‘s own creative process in a creative design discipline. Every step, from the initial sketch or script through to the final model, documents and graphically depicts these decisive design moments.
